Thanksgiving with a Twist

Give the traditional Thanksgiving meal a year off and try some of these fresh takes and flavours. You might just end up starting some traditions of your own!


Barbecue Turkey

Don’t retire the barbecue just yet! Turkey on the barbie imparts just-right smoky flavour for this seasonal holiday meal. Best of all, grilling turkey frees up the oven for starters and sides.

What you’ll need:

  1. 1 aluminum foil roasting pan
  2. 1 sheet of heavy gauge aluminum foil
  3. 500-600 g of vegetables cut into large pieces (300 g onions, 200 g carrots, 100 g celery)
  4. 1 frozen M&M Food Market Turkey Breast
  5. ½ cup water
  6. 1 ½ cup of M&M Food Market BBQ sauce (Maple Bacon or Apple Butter)
  7. Bacon weave using M&M Food Market Fully Cooked Bacon.

Place cut chopped vegetables into the roasting pan and place the frozen turkey breast on top.  Add ½ cup water, brush with BBQ sauce (1/4 cup) and lay the bacon over the breast. Cover tightly with a sheet of heavy gauge aluminum foil. Place on the barbecue over low heat and follow the cooking directions on the package. During the last 20 minutes of cooking, remove the foil from the pan and let the breast finish uncovered to brown. Remove the bacon from the breast and brush with another ¼ cup sauce. Replace the bacon and cook until done. Remove from the barbecue, and tent with foil. Allow to rest 20 minutes before cutting carving. Serve with grilled vegetables and potatoes.


Fall Harvest Turkey

Nothing says fall like fresh apples, and we love how this Thanksgiving recipe makes the most of the season’s natural bounty.

What you’ll need:

  1. 1 aluminum foil roasting pan (or regular roasting pan)
  2. 1 sheet of heavy gauge aluminum foil
  3. 500-600 g of vegetables cut into large pieces (300 g onions, 200 g apples—McIntosh are a good choice, 100 g celery)
  4. 200 g apples (McIntosh are a good choice); slice apples cut in rings through the core so you see the star pattern in the apple
  5. 1 frozen M&M Food Market Turkey Breast
  6. ½ cup apple cider
  7. ½ cup 1 bottle of M&M Food Market BBQ sauce (Apple Butter)

Place the cut apples and vegetables into the roasting pan and place the frozen turkey breast on top. Add ½ cup apple cider and brush with Applewood Smoked BBQ sauce (1/4 cup). Lay the apple slices over the breast. Cover tightly with the lid or sheet of heavy gauge aluminum foil. Place the turkey breast in a preheated oven and follow the cooking directions on the package. During the last 20 minutes of cooking, remove the foil from the pan and let the breast finish uncovered to brown.  Remove the apples and brush the turkey breast with another ¼ cup sauce. Replace the apples and cook until done. Remove from the BBQ, and tent with foil.  Allow to rest 20 minutes before cutting. Serve with M&M Food Market Scalloped Potatoes.


New Wave Modern

A Thanksgiving without turkey? It’s possible! Add some surprising flavours like rosemary and orange with pork, and you’ll never look at Thanksgiving the same way again.

What you’ll need:

  1. 2 sprigs rosemary
  2. Orange slices
  3. M&M Food Market Pork Pot Roast 
  4. ½ cup orange juice
  5. 1/2 cup water
  6. Vegetables (carrot, celery, onion), roughly chopped

Place pork roast in roasting pan and pour ½ cup orange juice and 1/2 cup water overtop. Top with orange slices and two sprigs of rosemary. Place roast on a bed of vegetables, (celery, carrot, and onion) to lift it out of the cooking liquid. Cook covered. Take cover off halfway through cooking, finish cooking and allow the roast to brown.   Serve with savoury veggies and M&M Food Market Sweet Potatoes Fries or M&M Food Market Homestyle Mashed Potatoes. Serve with creamy Swiss Gratin.
