Breakfast Strata

Serving Size: 4 servings
Here's a great brunch or weekend lunch idea. May be made up the night before, covered and refrigerated, then baked the following day.

Breakfast Strata


  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) oil
  • 2 cups (500 mL) M&M Diced Onions
  • 8 cups (2 L ) cubes (3/4-inch/1 cm) Texas Toast bread
  • 1 1/2 cups (375 mL) cubes (1/2-inch/1 cm) Smoked Ham
  • 3 cups (750 mL) small broccoli florets, cooked
  • 3 cups (750 mL) shredded Old Cheddar Cheese
  • 7 eggs
  • 2 cups (500 mL) milk
  • Salt and pepper


In large skillet over medium-high heat, heat oil. Add M&M Diced Onions; cook, stirring, for 6 to 8 minutes or until golden brown. Set aside.

In 13 x 9-inch (33 cm x 23 cm) baking pan, spread half of bread cubes. Spoon onions over top. Place half of smoked ham, half of broccoli and half of old cheddar cheese in layers.

In medium bowl, whisk together eggs and milk. Season with salt and pepper. Pour half of egg mixture over layers. Repeat with remaining ham, broccoli and cheese. Pour remaining egg mixture over top. Let stand for 5 minutes to allow bread to absorb liquid.

Bake in 350°F (180°C) oven for 30 to 35 minutes until puffed and lightly browned.
